The truth about sustainability in forestry

Believe it or not, the lumber industry is more sustainable now than it’s ever been before. There are more trees planted in North America today than there were 100 years ago thanks to sustainable management practices.

Sustainability
In Practice

The tradition of growing and harvesting trees in the Pacific Northwest goes back generations, and has continued to provide jobs for millions of Americans while also being good stewards of our land. Working forests are good for the environment and provide clean air and water, wildlife habitat and carbon storage. Here’s how it all works.

Harvesting

Using technologically advanced methods, professional timber harvesters work prescribed harvesting plans to bring logs into the sawmill’s receiving yard.

Image
Reforestation

During harvesting, a replanting plan is decided. Once the timber is harvested, a reforestation team plants seeds ensuring the healthy forest continue to produce for generations to come.

Image
Milling

Logs are processed into a variety of products, like dimension lumber, using highly specialized, technologically advanced machinery to ensure 100% utilization of the timber resource.

Shipping

Once the lumber is processed and inspected for use, it enters the warehouse for shipping to retail lumber yards and distribution centers.

Building

Lumber is sold and used to construct housing, furniture, and much more!
